I don't claim to know everything about the Lenovo G51 touch pad. But, when my touch pad stopped working, I Googled for solutions and found none for my laptop.
But I did figure out from the solutions offered that I might have accidentally hit a function key that turned off my touch pad. Since my laptop was working fine with a mouse, this was my best shot.
I found my solution in F6. I'd accidentally hit F6 and disabled my touch pad. I hit F6 again and viola! I am back in business.
