It's difficult to coax information out of it until it's good and ready. So, here I am, blogging instructions. I can list at least four reasons why despite being at it for well over 20 years, I still find teaching the craft captivating.</span><span style="color: #555555; font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 14.98px;"><br /><!--[endif]--></span><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;"><o:p></o:p></span></div></div><ol start="1" type="1"><li class="MsoNormal" style="color: #555555; line-height: 15.75pt; text-align: justify;"><b><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 10.5pt;">I enjoy the various facets of Needlework-</span></b><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 10.5pt;"> Needlework is a very broad term given to an amazing variety of things you can design with just a bit of yarn, implements like the humble sewing needle, a pair of knitting needles, a crochet hook, an exotic tatting shuttle etc., and your fingers. Although needlework is basically categorized into freestyle embroidery, counted thread embroidery, and lace making, each of these labels have under their umbrella, an astonishing number of constantly expanding styles. For instance, crochet, knitting and tatting fall under lace making; however, within the category of tatting fall distinct styles like Cluny tatting, beaded tatting, split ring tatting, needle tatting etc. Exploring all of these, and developing methods to help my students understand the nuances mastering them would require, are at the same time both a challenging and an extremely enjoyable experience.<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="color: #555555; line-height: 15.75pt; text-align: justify;"><b><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 10.5pt;">I enjoy being part of my students' projects-</span></b><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 10.5pt;"> Why would I enjoy being a part of other people's projects? As I've mentioned earlier, needlework is a very broad term, and if I were to try out every project that captivates my imagination, I would have very little time to expand my horizons and learn new techniques. Therefore, I love to participate in my students projects from start to finish and to help them explore multiple ways to use a design; furthermore, the part I enjoy the most is exploring with them how different a specific design would look when worked using different design elements, classes of stitches or styles of embroidery. These exercises satiate the designer in me.<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="color: #555555; line-height: 15.75pt; text-align: justify;"><b><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 10.5pt;">The more I teach the more I learn-</span></b><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 10.5pt;"> Upon reflection, I realize that teaching needlework has forced me to look at things from other people's point of view; mostly because, I've never had some of the doubts my students raise when I was learning the techniques myself. In such cases, I have to first figure out why the student had the doubt in the first place, find a solution, and then add it to my repertoire of teaching techniques. In one instance, since I am right-handed, I found it difficult to address doubts raised by my left-handed students until one of them pointed out that all I had to do was use an image editing software to flip the images illustrating the instructions so I had a mirror image; I'd now have images suited for a left-handed student. At times, a student would illustrate an easier technique she had learned from her mom to work a stitch; even though I am the teacher, teaching needlework is never a one way street, for my students constantly motivate me to expand my teaching skills and to explore the use of technology in teaching needlework. <o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="color: #555555; line-height: 15.75pt; text-align: justify;"><b><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 10.5pt;">Teaching needlework akin to meditation-</span></b><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 10.5pt;"> Finally, teaching needlework and meditating have the same effect on me; in particular, it's a great stress buster because when I am teaching needlework I am so into it that for brief periods of time, everything else ceases to exist. </span></li></ol><div class="MsoNormal"><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="background: white; color: #555555; font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 14.98px;">The joy I get out of teaching my needlework classes is an almost addictive transcendental experience.</span></div></div>Bhavani Harikrishnanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08020049375173773699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-922795682172992402.post-48673957832398164872019-06-05T10:00:00.000-07:002020-06-15T11:01:12.444-07:00Paraphrasing Sample and Why I Prefer Working Directly With A Client<div class="MsoNormal"><div style="text-align: justify;">What's the connection between paraphrasing and why I prefer a one to one with clients? I was writing for content companies between 2007 and 2012. In my personal experience, when the turn around time is suffocatingly short, quality suffers. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">As a general rule, I put a couple of sentences of the articles I submit within quotes and Google it, to check if the articles have been posted by the buyer. Next, I check if the buyer has made made any revisions. In my experience, most buyers barely give it more than a cursory glance. Some proofread and edit it. A very small percentage use the articles as research and put their own stamp on it. No matter what they do, I am left feeling inefficient.<br /><br />If no revisions have been made, the errors nag me. If the articles are edited, I feel guilty for not doing a better job. If the client makes revisions, I feel my skills were tested and found lacking, but this is the easiest to shrug off.<br /><br />Click <a href="http://stringitnow.com/about-us/">here</a> to read the About Us Page of a website I wrote for a couple of years back. Had I been in direct contact with the client, I would have offered to edit it. You'll find my edited version of it under the subheading 'Rewrite'. The actual webpage and the 'Rewrite' prove my point.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>The Reasons I Prefer a Direct Client - Writer Relationship</b></div><ol style="text-align: left;"><li style="text-align: justify;"> I wrote the 'About Us Page' and all the other pages on the said website. Turn around time was 2 days. I did not work directly for this client. I wrote through a content writing company. Every time I read these pages, I wish I could write them again. </li><li style="text-align: justify;"> I have since realised that I don't like working through a third party. Being a blogger myself, I have definite ideas of what I want each post to look like or to convey. When writing for a client through a third party the lines of communication between the client and the actual writer are non-existent. The end product is therefore not something either the client or a conscientious writer is totally happy with.</li><li style="text-align: justify;">Most companies taking up bulk writing are more concerned with profits rather than quality writing. They expect writers to turn in 3-6 articles a day @ $1 or $3 dollars per 500 words. The big joke is they expect both quality and quantity and insist that doing this should be easy for a good writer. Often writers are forced to write about topics for which they have neither the interest nor the aptitude. This naturally reflects on their work.</li><li style="text-align: justify;">The turn around time is hardly an hour. I for one can't write a well-researched article within that time frame. A well-researched article means verifying facts before writing. I don't see any point in simply rewriting content from the top 3 or so pages on the Search Engine Results Page. Isn't there enough fluff out there already?</li><li style="text-align: justify;">It is also impossible to turn in quick error free articles. There are bound to be typos and other minor errors in the final draft. I tend to make revisions to my work as and when new ideas pop into my mind. No matter how many times I read my articles after I've written them, some errors escape my attention. But when I read them the next day, they are glaringly obvious. Over the years, I've realised that this is because, when I read an article immediately after writing it, I read it with my mind rather than with my eyes. A writer producing bulk articles can never turn in well-researched, error-free articles that also have excellent sentence structure.</li></ol></div><div class="MsoNormal"><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 18.4px;">That said, here's how I would have written the About Us page had I had a little more time.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div><b style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 18.4px;"><br /></span></b><b style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 18.4px;">Rewrite:</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "times new roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 18.4px;">We are Matt Doyle and Bex Burns. I don't claim to know everything about the Lenovo G51 touch pad. But, when my touch pad stopped working, I Googled for solutions and found none for my laptop.<br />
<br />
But I did figure out from the solutions offered that I might have accidentally hit a function key that turned off my touch pad. Since my laptop was working fine with a mouse, this was my best shot.<br />
<br />
I found my solution in F6. I'd accidentally hit F6 and disabled my touch pad. I hit F6 again and viola! I am back in business.<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Sign up for SMS alerts, they come in handy when it's time to collect your passport and finally, click submit.</div>

Technology has made things simpler and easier. Yet we fail to exploit these advantages. I think the reason for this is mostly fear of the unknown. Same goes for making use of the online passport application facility. Whether you are applying for a fresh passport or applying for a re-issue just follow these steps. When you're done, you'll pat yourself on the back and say, "Wow! I didn't know it was this simple".<br />
<br />
Okay, let's get started.<br />
<br />
Step 1: Get to the <a href="http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/welcomeLink" target="_blank">Indian Passport Seva website</a>.<br />
Step 2: You'll see something like the image below. From the choices, select, New User? Register Now.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5rFG6akmFJOFngHKtz6FTrhwJUQGCMLAfKBxmfjbIk4fb8qx7ero_g7KBIaskeIipMMa0u45MBwNWtOCKGegaYotZpfol-DUoELTxD2yVdU2koDxnHcmRZ8aFLrh1jCp7MOGKJttP4rIU/s1600/register.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5rFG6akmFJOFngHKtz6FTrhwJUQGCMLAfKBxmfjbIk4fb8qx7ero_g7KBIaskeIipMMa0u45MBwNWtOCKGegaYotZpfol-DUoELTxD2yVdU2koDxnHcmRZ8aFLrh1jCp7MOGKJttP4rIU/s640/register.png" width="640" /></a><br />
Step 3: Selecting New User, will generate a registration form shown below.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipJ0Hlenypw5QHB4-BLjaG1VewAEiaA3WHrvfRd1L-NW8iN1p5QwTLhxzoSOlibUvsLQLUu08d1ALt9TIaLJKpZSICldH3xhsoeWGRPY3F1dyBE7cHMyxiTd22h1o7non-BPjo76hZ1SNT/s1600/Registration+form.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="594" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipJ0Hlenypw5QHB4-BLjaG1VewAEiaA3WHrvfRd1L-NW8iN1p5QwTLhxzoSOlibUvsLQLUu08d1ALt9TIaLJKpZSICldH3xhsoeWGRPY3F1dyBE7cHMyxiTd22h1o7non-BPjo76hZ1SNT/s640/Registration+form.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Step 4: Let's start filling the form. The instructions for filling the form are clear. But let me take you through the steps anyway.<br />
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>Register to apply at:</b> There are 2 radio buttons CPV Delhi and Passport Office. Choose Passport office; unless you are applying for a diplomatic or a refugee passport.</li>
<li><b>Passport Office:</b> Click <a href="http://techstunted.blogspot.in/2016/03/how-to-locate-your-passport-office.html" target="_blank">here </a>to know the Passport Office as per your present residential address. Choose the right city from the drop down list.</li>
<li><b>Given Name:</b> Fill in your name. </li>
<li><b>Surname:</b> For South Indians who use initials, this is essentially an expansion of your initials. For instance, if your name is A(Arakonam).P(Prabakar). Selvam, Selvam is your given name and Arakonam Prabakar is your surname. If it's just P. Selvam, then Prabakar is your surname.</li>
<li><b>Date of Birth: </b>Select the date from the the tiny calendar to the right. This can be a wee bit tricky if you don't follow a specific order. So, first select the year, then the month and finally the date and you'll have no problems.</li>

One of the first things you need know when you apply for a passport is your passport office as per your residential address.<br />
<br />
Let's say you live in Villupuram both Trichy and Chennai have passport offices. Geographically, Villupuram is equidistant from Chennai and Trichy. Does that mean you can apply for your passport either from Chennai or Trichy?<br />
<br />
No. You can't.<br />
<br />
So, how are you supposed to know which passport office to choose from the drop down list?<br />
<br />
It's simple. <br />
<br />
1. Click <a href="https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/locatePSK/locatePFCInp" target="_blank">here </a>to go to the 'Passport Seva Kendra or Laghu Kendra' page. Aternately, it's the 4th link under 'Information Corner' to the left of the user login page. When you land there, this is what you'll see.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_i2XIh3skiOWXLKyU0DBF4_ECZFGB-K7fxAa8lcMh_PuCXRCJEOiFRJYCCUW1im_wPdpach5eg6dxKp4S3mhWQxYiPL2cUN7w1horRiJxjC2h2sMox0iuZP1Ib7lojrOpyQ2YfMTsfwNZ/s1600/Passport+office+location.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_i2XIh3skiOWXLKyU0DBF4_ECZFGB-K7fxAa8lcMh_PuCXRCJEOiFRJYCCUW1im_wPdpach5eg6dxKp4S3mhWQxYiPL2cUN7w1horRiJxjC2h2sMox0iuZP1Ib7lojrOpyQ2YfMTsfwNZ/s640/Passport+office+location.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
2. As you can see, there are 2 radio buttons - Passport Office and PIN Code. Select 'PIN Code'. Enter your Pincode in the box that pops up. Then click on 'Locate PSK/PSLK'. When you do, you'll see something like the image below. I've entered the PIN Code for Villupuram - 605602. Let's see what happens. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
A table with location addresses appears on your screen. What do the columns mean?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjonddO0DYR33GbQxATtm3w_7mILRccAnaSFU4iTJeDCd28-_ho15F8M9V2q4Ci3KChZAxL00FvCR_IIZBIW8dgaJHNp7edn2y-_2wFxZfuo8mWtzhjhuTOVj5qqweima4w3_H7uWrTT59K/s1600/location.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="376" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjonddO0DYR33GbQxATtm3w_7mILRccAnaSFU4iTJeDCd28-_ho15F8M9V2q4Ci3KChZAxL00FvCR_IIZBIW8dgaJHNp7edn2y-_2wFxZfuo8mWtzhjhuTOVj5qqweima4w3_H7uWrTT59K/s640/location.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
I've boxed city in red. This means, if you live in Villupuram, you have to apply for your passport in Chennai.<br />
<br />
Of what use is the PSK address I've boxed in green? You'll have to choose one these addresses when you schedule your passport interview.<br />

<b>Where's Contacts in Moto G?</b><br />
<br />
Contacts in Moto G is very comprehensive and easy to use and organise once you figure out where to find it. I'll devote this tutorial to locating contacts and we'll look into adding, editing and managing contacts in the subsequent tutorials.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4ytwaCrcuoYs3iQshGDFqfgNg1DGRUJKdAUsjzxLcxSJ0uAsMkRgR6g9njjXKS9OcgQLoQaNhWbdDT2BZBnjclrTiLis-kc_pYFfwGu4XDxr4AjAF7SZhlqBg9GfcbDMcl0kJaqQK7XgN/s1600/Moto+G+contacts+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4ytwaCrcuoYs3iQshGDFqfgNg1DGRUJKdAUsjzxLcxSJ0uAsMkRgR6g9njjXKS9OcgQLoQaNhWbdDT2BZBnjclrTiLis-kc_pYFfwGu4XDxr4AjAF7SZhlqBg9GfcbDMcl0kJaqQK7XgN/s1600/Moto+G+contacts+1.png" height="320" width="272" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Our first job is to locate the <i>menu</i>. I've boxed it in red in the image above. When you tap on the menu, you'll be taken to the screen shown below.</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhewT3MqL14cS1bdthFkSQvkx0xFGyoTfwrW2nNEZoJH6wK4qm4LT-yrT7O6iYqxIx5i8Bi1sHgbfaPwybxgJLui3EmTPgCF7AfeAltqfWI47muNyUb50Yd3HOEWncX52EytTGbbwG-fOD0/s1600/Moto+G+contacts+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhewT3MqL14cS1bdthFkSQvkx0xFGyoTfwrW2nNEZoJH6wK4qm4LT-yrT7O6iYqxIx5i8Bi1sHgbfaPwybxgJLui3EmTPgCF7AfeAltqfWI47muNyUb50Yd3HOEWncX52EytTGbbwG-fOD0/s1600/Moto+G+contacts+2.png" height="640" width="352" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>You'll find 2 tabs on this screen - Apps and Widgets. </li>
<li>Select Apps. (You'll see a thickened white line under the tab you select.) Locate '<i>People</i>'. It could be either on the first or the second page of the apps tab. </li>
<li>Swipe right to left if you don't find yours in page 1. I found mine in page 2 (circled in red in the image below).</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Tap on 'People' to go to contacts. Your contacts page will look similar to the image below. </li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpZSwT2BeqcGsOC6NSPGReUMkh1qfeOkY4n0BrekXbye3es1Y-kB6lzdTa6Nrse5rTA3wNnElJgWI8cBkK751C3X6X4Hk7V17kHqehxB6Iy1vinlfHABEvSlpRXHC4KkxqInPHTMHkJSE0/s1600/moto+G+contacts+4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpZSwT2BeqcGsOC6NSPGReUMkh1qfeOkY4n0BrekXbye3es1Y-kB6lzdTa6Nrse5rTA3wNnElJgWI8cBkK751C3X6X4Hk7V17kHqehxB6Iy1vinlfHABEvSlpRXHC4KkxqInPHTMHkJSE0/s1600/moto+G+contacts+4.png" height="640" width="358" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Now, this is where things get interesting. I've circled and numbered all the tabs (1, 2 and 3) icons (4,5,6) we'll be using to manage our contacts. I'll give a brief description of each in this tutorial, and we'll look into 3, 5 and 6 in detail in subsequent tutorials.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ol>
<li><b>Favourites </b>- the numbers you dial frequently get stored here automatically.</li>
<li><b>Contacts </b>- this is your regular contacts page.</li>
<li><b>Groups </b>- this feature helps you sort your contacts into coworkers, family or friends. You can add your own custom groups if you want to. These contacts will still appear on the regular contacts page. This feature just makes accessing contacts and information easier.</li>
<li><b>Search </b>- locate a specific person easily without scrolling down endlessly.</li>
<li><b>Add Contact</b><u> </u>- This is contextual. Use this icon to add a new contact from the contacts. It changes to add a new group when you are in the groups tab.</li>
<li><b>Menu </b>- you can import/export contacts, sync accounts and change settings from here.</li>
</ol>

You'll find the specifications for both easily enough. But you can't buy and expensive gadget based on specifications alone; there are other aspects to consider berfore you lean one way or the other. Read on and decide for yourselves whether upgrading is a good idea.</div><br /><ul style="text-align: left;"><li style="text-align: justify;"><b>Battery </b>- Samsung has not indicted the battery life of Samsung Galaxy S5, so the jury is still out. But the Galaxy S4 battery boasts about 7 hours talk time and approximately 12.5 days in standby mode.</li><li style="text-align: justify;">Galaxy S5 has a <i>finger print sensor </i>and a<i> heart rate senor</i>. But, a Heart Rate App downloaded via PlayStore produces precisely the same results in Galaxy S4. Most testers claim that the finger print sensor is partial to persistent users.</li><li style="text-align: justify;">Galaxy S5 is <i>water and dust resistent</i>. S4 does not lay claim to such capabilities.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b>The charging port</b> -USB 3.0 is equipped with a sealing water resistant stopper. S5 also sports a rubber gasket that protects its components from water and dust. So, it should survive a dunk in your washing machine. But it is not clear whether it will survive a lengthy dunk. Compare this to Galaxy S4's USB's micro 2.0. </li><li style="text-align: justify;">Data swapping between devices is faster in S5.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b>Reparability </b>- According to a report on <a href="http://m.gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/news/samsung-galaxy-s5-harder-to-repair-than-galaxy-s4-iphone-5s-ifixit-507312" target="_blank">NDTV Gadgets</a>, Galaxy S5 is difficult to repair. It measures just 5 on <a href="https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+S5+Teardown/24016#s61523" target="_blank">iFixit's </a>reparability scale of 1 to 10. The reason cited is the need, to remove the display in order to access the other parts. This could result in irreparable damage. Besides, prying it open apparently requires a bit of muscle. Compare this to Galaxy S4's score of 8 on10.</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><b>Touch Screen</b> - You don't need to take off your gloves to operate S4's super sensitive touch screen. One would assume that S5's touch screen would be just as sensitive if not more so. But so far, nobody has thought about sharing this information online.</li></ul>Bhavani Harikrishnanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08020049375173773699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-922795682172992402.post-28331105210944822292013-12-29T07:42:00.000-08:002013-12-29T08:11:47.230-08:00How to Watermark Your Images Using GIMP<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Here's the promised tutorial on Watermarking Images Using GIMP. Let's get right down to it. Open GIMP. Click on the <i>File tab -> Open -> </i>Choose the image file you want to watermark<br />
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr4bxotPhpYBUIu32v_6WW83FihUjhyGNWxYVFJ3cgaeS9bU8ySRda808UYT3zOMwf79m3gbHJMV96eOvEGk7sMtdCevQvKXRemsGUfzXURkDxClExTodnqQ0E-__LyuPIyJGwyL25AWel/s1600/GIMP+-+watermark+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="371" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr4bxotPhpYBUIu32v_6WW83FihUjhyGNWxYVFJ3cgaeS9bU8ySRda808UYT3zOMwf79m3gbHJMV96eOvEGk7sMtdCevQvKXRemsGUfzXURkDxClExTodnqQ0E-__LyuPIyJGwyL25AWel/s640/GIMP+-+watermark+1.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
It will open up a text box as shown in the image below.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV33X8Z2ouUPb9TgNvYnuTe6fCcfbAALYViK4AU0Nd5sIX432GEiVdq7Ai0oPzOXTkL38pHXO13HA_Gouq9y5pGDx7Ftn3vgZLZIM467TTrJGc2RxSjzHUTDGkuWvrIC3WYI4GzGqarxlw/s1600/GIMP+-+watermark+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV33X8Z2ouUPb9TgNvYnuTe6fCcfbAALYViK4AU0Nd5sIX432GEiVdq7Ai0oPzOXTkL38pHXO13HA_Gouq9y5pGDx7Ftn3vgZLZIM467TTrJGc2RxSjzHUTDGkuWvrIC3WYI4GzGqarxlw/s640/GIMP+-+watermark+2.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Understanding The Text Box</b></div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>In the picture above, the central rectangle is the actual text box</li>
<li>The 4 square corners are for moving the text box around the page. Place your mouse on one of these squares, right click, hold and try moving it up, down, left or right and see what happens.</li>
<li>In the image below,</li>
</ol>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
</ol>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>orange box 1 = Type the name of the font your prefer (eg. Times New Roman).</li>
<li>orange box 2 = space between the lines of your text</li>
<li>orange box 3 = space between the letters of your text</li>
<li>red box = font size</li>
<li>pink box = text box handle (this appears when you hover your mouse near any of the 4 walls of the text box)</li>
<li>blue box = is where the text appears as you type it.</li>
</ul>
<div>
For a clearer understanding of these functions, play around and see what happens. First click inside the text box and then format the font.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirCJLhodeegsme1ygZUpIAEqqud2QKUGFYDnoHyCQV6XmCQTFhXtRC26zUNlJ2vGgYEfG0mN_uoH67GDRCXcQDjZeTQ8L85ApGCLPxhF6UuKzdxrnxrCxNP7BJ7GH9mmPb9Ub_R0bVU7Ww/s1600/Gimp+watermarking+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="372" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirCJLhodeegsme1ygZUpIAEqqud2QKUGFYDnoHyCQV6XmCQTFhXtRC26zUNlJ2vGgYEfG0mN_uoH67GDRCXcQDjZeTQ8L85ApGCLPxhF6UuKzdxrnxrCxNP7BJ7GH9mmPb9Ub_R0bVU7Ww/s640/Gimp+watermarking+2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
But, unless I type in the text, I won't know how all these adjustments will reflect on my text. So, I usually type in the text first. If you can't see what you're typing don't worry about it. Just check the <i>layers area</i>. Whatever you type will appear in the <i>Text layer area</i> in the layers tool box as in the image below. (My Layer is on the left because I put it there. It's usually on the right side of the work area.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJmzVfsXxdNemB1TD8BaxIIj4M9yBz3YRDuKxCLdak-t8k1xDxrolo8kAYIon_nN_WpqGosdFJ2ZxCNaYbctk6JvRrPprEq0Dj0x5KUxTVigZeu4te-jzcF7bhUjCeJT6Ce9SdnFrzHFQS/s1600/GIMP+-Watemarking+3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJmzVfsXxdNemB1TD8BaxIIj4M9yBz3YRDuKxCLdak-t8k1xDxrolo8kAYIon_nN_WpqGosdFJ2ZxCNaYbctk6JvRrPprEq0Dj0x5KUxTVigZeu4te-jzcF7bhUjCeJT6Ce9SdnFrzHFQS/s640/GIMP+-Watemarking+3.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Now select the text by double clicking inside the text box. Edit font, text size etc. I want a diagonal watermark. To do that select the <i>rotate tool. </i>I've circled it in red in the image below.<span style="text-align: left;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz6cWkPZLEJRIfmRfaC19hyphenhyphenbVNQCs7PMDrZEgAStd_BE-YDIvzNm_aEJiP0iV1YNB50ADD0J3BFWaFj_Fh5cOqLVwlNMDuj22UwpkYWxAoamUj7r9mPClXW-pZXff3bDpHv8T5JFWIE1TB/s1600/GIMP+-Watemarking+4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="322" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz6cWkPZLEJRIfmRfaC19hyphenhyphenbVNQCs7PMDrZEgAStd_BE-YDIvzNm_aEJiP0iV1YNB50ADD0J3BFWaFj_Fh5cOqLVwlNMDuj22UwpkYWxAoamUj7r9mPClXW-pZXff3bDpHv8T5JFWIE1TB/s640/GIMP+-Watemarking+4.png" width="640" /></a></div>
When you click on the text again, a mesh covers your text and a dialogue box appears as seen in the picture below.<br />

<li>If you add a negative value, the text rotates counterclockwise.</li>
</ol>
<div>
<i>For watermarking the image, we need to rotate the text counterclockwise. </i><br />
<br /></div>
<div>
Think of the mesh you see as a graph sheet complete with an X axis and a Y axis and a center 0.</div>
<div>
Altering the values of <i>Center X and Center Y will re-position the center 0 and use that as the axis or anchor point for rotation</i>. If you are not able to see the anchor point on the mesh, drag the dialogue box away from the mesh. You'll see a circle right at the center. Watch it as you rotate the text.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Try adjusting the values of the Center X and Center Y counters and see what happens. Alternately, you can manually drag the center circle and drop it where ever you want.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><i>Another way to rotate</i></b> is to simply drag the mesh up from the right hand side or down from the left hand side and adjust the position.<br />
<br />
You can place your text box at the bottom of the image letting it span the entire length of the bottom. Now you can drag and drop the anchor to the extreme left center of the text box, and then rotate.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Once you've rotated the image, you'll want it to look like a watermark rather than just text. To do this, choose '<i>opacity</i>' from the <i>Layers area.</i> Reduce the value until you're satisfied the text looks like a watermark.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<b>Saving Your Watermarked File</b><br />
We're done with the watermarking. Let's save the image. The screenshot below shows the save options in GIMP.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7GbneMNEDVFxwNSB7IzWrn9Yv43usPbSQtbp5zwwBZ3aWwaqULUSUTjWZn_a5LC6RLT9ozC62U2ttghe0WV0HpGKhAKBTwoIpHS3o8NxGWLkjVhXBkXqMNNFrpXdNWokRo_UM_MSBaTFR/s1600/GIMP-+watermark+7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7GbneMNEDVFxwNSB7IzWrn9Yv43usPbSQtbp5zwwBZ3aWwaqULUSUTjWZn_a5LC6RLT9ozC62U2ttghe0WV0HpGKhAKBTwoIpHS3o8NxGWLkjVhXBkXqMNNFrpXdNWokRo_UM_MSBaTFR/s320/GIMP-+watermark+7.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
If you save in any of these file formats, you can open the image only with GIMP. So what do you do? From the <i>file menu</i>, choose <i>export </i>and select a <i>file format</i>. I prefer to use .png as this retains image quality. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Another saving option is </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Edit -> Copy visible</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Open MS paint and paste image </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Crop if needed and save in .png format</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i>One final point to note is, no matter what the file format, when compared to the original image, you'll find a considerable increase in the file size of the image you manipulated using GIMP.</i></div>

If you've ever had the unpleasant experience of seeing images you worked so hard to create somewhere else on the web, you'll understand the importance of learning how to watermark them. Things can get ugly when other websites pass off your images as their own creation. Why get into such situations when you can avoid them by simply watermarking your stuff.<br />
<br />
Okay, let's get started. There are two ways you can do this.<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Using Paint</li>
<li>Using GIMP</li>
</ul>
<b>Watermarking Images Using Paint</b><br />
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>Select the image you want to watermark. Right click on it. Open With -> Paint.</li>
<li>The image opens in Paint</li>
</ol>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimAn_4U8j3OBUEr-n4ZEfIg4epkE_SEa0ImBM5_PImd8p7XKSHvvcvbRx16sUPFAyNQW0Eh1v8jF5-KFTkcnHLeQqwKyLplP6rxJIb-yu5hFX-FfpbjqGx40T5Xkf7CczsXcTGg2M5YT1r/s1600/WMI+-+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="379" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimAn_4U8j3OBUEr-n4ZEfIg4epkE_SEa0ImBM5_PImd8p7XKSHvvcvbRx16sUPFAyNQW0Eh1v8jF5-KFTkcnHLeQqwKyLplP6rxJIb-yu5hFX-FfpbjqGx40T5Xkf7CczsXcTGg2M5YT1r/s640/WMI+-+1.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
3. Next type in the text.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTVm-SRMpf7V3AXRRqzy1WjynqwRpfze7x6K0O0GyNGU62I5LJWkmJAa8fl21UPBZCBp5tQOoWPkfKiidFG6bABQ4UFsCPMyFINBpRFHJ2jRSxsJGzdcfFXpLQVfwPy_F13LKvEFjydrBy/s1600/WMI-2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="465" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTVm-SRMpf7V3AXRRqzy1WjynqwRpfze7x6K0O0GyNGU62I5LJWkmJAa8fl21UPBZCBp5tQOoWPkfKiidFG6bABQ4UFsCPMyFINBpRFHJ2jRSxsJGzdcfFXpLQVfwPy_F13LKvEFjydrBy/s640/WMI-2.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
4. The letters for the watermarking have been typed in. But there are problems. They are too tiny and you are not too pleased with the colour. How do we change that? Let's go back and take a look.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiQkGyUDdN8XeJmF97s3RuaC18ZKu2uOYCR7yqgUWT7RblkAY_f5LSn2wOqe9YmnYbVR5b5cFa5E_kMKeD6chb-FuR4M08SKyVeK3FjM1ZuTaPKEBwzXmZ3dj9ameWoJp_iwr2Kqy1xg2q/s1600/WMI-3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="484" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiQkGyUDdN8XeJmF97s3RuaC18ZKu2uOYCR7yqgUWT7RblkAY_f5LSn2wOqe9YmnYbVR5b5cFa5E_kMKeD6chb-FuR4M08SKyVeK3FjM1ZuTaPKEBwzXmZ3dj9ameWoJp_iwr2Kqy1xg2q/s640/WMI-3.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
5. The screenshot below shows the adjusted text box. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCAt-AwzRtnj6ZkRPF0XOJElr_pirwPrZMT05LWPMFgdQX1Xv_sckjcZWhyphenhyphenocb8qeDbTmyoM3I5pz7VJaBRNf2d1uxikSN_tXim_A-RtnyHenfAHjbhuwldBz6zXayOoN6-kAoBAvbJecl/s1600/WMI-4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCAt-AwzRtnj6ZkRPF0XOJElr_pirwPrZMT05LWPMFgdQX1Xv_sckjcZWhyphenhyphenocb8qeDbTmyoM3I5pz7VJaBRNf2d1uxikSN_tXim_A-RtnyHenfAHjbhuwldBz6zXayOoN6-kAoBAvbJecl/s400/WMI-4.png" width="387" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
6. Let's change the black to something that looks more like a watermark. I chose grey. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTMqhIv5o7qxms82Jwl92uhVCnSSWmq93dTlGLrTar3oSn5UxmijCwRP__FDqAXrr2f-kkAr2ePbhndNW7CyenMelO78hIAj0Mrr7X8ECbJqXyJDdvDVyiTroJRjYCBHyQHEyGLpmIVI_d/s1600/WMI+-5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="387" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTMqhIv5o7qxms82Jwl92uhVCnSSWmq93dTlGLrTar3oSn5UxmijCwRP__FDqAXrr2f-kkAr2ePbhndNW7CyenMelO78hIAj0Mrr7X8ECbJqXyJDdvDVyiTroJRjYCBHyQHEyGLpmIVI_d/s640/WMI+-5.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Here's my final watermarked image.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiX7EZiYloBcBiUlddywyRgHeS_BUQFiRdhQnDsFcxo6Bv16yW8aCyd6PLKWmrf7fr4jrCxSTxIBaJNNmxXBmUxuDkBKq3MIJi57XgYlQy8HmTeMshZEY8rov0o6EyK17-CgeC0hU1ZlzH/s1600/WMI-7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiX7EZiYloBcBiUlddywyRgHeS_BUQFiRdhQnDsFcxo6Bv16yW8aCyd6PLKWmrf7fr4jrCxSTxIBaJNNmxXBmUxuDkBKq3MIJi57XgYlQy8HmTeMshZEY8rov0o6EyK17-CgeC0hU1ZlzH/s320/WMI-7.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Looks good but does not look like a real watermark does it? To look like a real watermark,the letters need to have a translucent quality. I haven't discovered a way to do it in Paint yet. Maybe there isn't one. But you can do it with GIMP. I'll take you through the steps in my next post.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
There's one other aspect to watermarking that Paint lacks. Rotation. You can't place the watermark diagonally across the image using Paint.</div>

I recently wrote an article on <a href="http://bhavanihari.wordpress.com/2012/10/02/the-story-of-pepper-spray/">Pepper Spray and its History</a> and I wanted an image for it. I had something specific in mind. I did a web search and found what I wanted; but in two different images. I had to do some cropping and fancy combining. Here are the two images after the cropping.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqsOktUVNYve93p3-uy_C8lSjVn89Y5Hberwvjo1kwTETSzh1Zvmp3kJ6AuCNEU5ujBw54VeRyUti7YNlYPBIXbOMexZkxfW1iZcLx3VCA5_fpeZ2HBJ3f0xLp0OnN7QYnYeTQw2TLfHg/s1600/66666.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqsOktUVNYve93p3-uy_C8lSjVn89Y5Hberwvjo1kwTETSzh1Zvmp3kJ6AuCNEU5ujBw54VeRyUti7YNlYPBIXbOMexZkxfW1iZcLx3VCA5_fpeZ2HBJ3f0xLp0OnN7QYnYeTQw2TLfHg/s1600/66666.png" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhztPLbe9ffKWwlDYsieQrEqKMbQAivjna4TxkbXlcMX_u6uyncAigJsG6xNzNUwfaVjZ_0yJbEdmRzvOz8CazcseKUXWacHWYaOIH-NYu8ygk_IodtpET5bsA34ac3fDwcqry_QCpNBAY/s1600/spray.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="194" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhztPLbe9ffKWwlDYsieQrEqKMbQAivjna4TxkbXlcMX_u6uyncAigJsG6xNzNUwfaVjZ_0yJbEdmRzvOz8CazcseKUXWacHWYaOIH-NYu8ygk_IodtpET5bsA34ac3fDwcqry_QCpNBAY/s320/spray.png" width="320" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqsOktUVNYve93p3-uy_C8lSjVn89Y5Hberwvjo1kwTETSzh1Zvmp3kJ6AuCNEU5ujBw54VeRyUti7YNlYPBIXbOMexZkxfW1iZcLx3VCA5_fpeZ2HBJ3f0xLp0OnN7QYnYeTQw2TLfHg/s1600/66666.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here's how you can combine them.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Preparing the Canvas</b><br />
1. Open GIMP.<br />
2. From the File Menu choose Open to open the two image files. You'll find that they open on two different canvases.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7N8yT9JkgJI2eqE4C972OhAgcJp4ACe_ksimLRhLanFspl4Iawu2MSqLbn4s-nH4EAJBlJUkgEtF-cBBl2M7qbDgfAAX5hUHOY1jjdR_iBZVagALAVVVgFB35z7_nMkZec43VRmSD09c/s1600/Step+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="152" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7N8yT9JkgJI2eqE4C972OhAgcJp4ACe_ksimLRhLanFspl4Iawu2MSqLbn4s-nH4EAJBlJUkgEtF-cBBl2M7qbDgfAAX5hUHOY1jjdR_iBZVagALAVVVgFB35z7_nMkZec43VRmSD09c/s320/Step+1.png" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
3. You'll need a third canvas to work on; customized to accommodate both images. You can open a new one from any of the already open canvases. But how do you determine the size of your new canvas?<br />
4. To do this, click new from the file menu of the chili canvas. It opens a dialogue box to help you create a custom canvas. It also has the image size information of the canvas you opened it from.<br />
In the image below, you can see that the size of the chili image is 77 x 285px (pixels or picture elements).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIVByI_60-TrCvege9G8-UdT3LvAJ3lVjADKdOVqMhatZGOpBo4VWqOLfJbGllGzR4DNqu6ie5kMhGLScljEEao7RHYOLbmax8JVgKuqG5fMN3COw7wdblM8jsmkJ1GQbwOKmte3bKcEE/s1600/GIMP+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="171" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIVByI_60-TrCvege9G8-UdT3LvAJ3lVjADKdOVqMhatZGOpBo4VWqOLfJbGllGzR4DNqu6ie5kMhGLScljEEao7RHYOLbmax8JVgKuqG5fMN3COw7wdblM8jsmkJ1GQbwOKmte3bKcEE/s400/GIMP+2.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
5. Do the same with canvas 2 and note the image size. It is 368 x 224 px. So, to work comfortably, the third canvas should be 368 x 285 px. Let's round it up to 800 x 300. I have doubled the width. You'll understand why when you start working on a similar project. Enter 800 against width and 300 against height as shown below and click ok. You now have a new drawing board that's just the right size for combining the images.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMQAbSYvuvSmCI6mMenC3SafNTOkDfCTpnGEokOd5q7xG50s3efEhWOh1OCXh6PaJMAV-0OfHFmoER0Y6TYXixdciE77lARtxHXrhCuGERcD747mzCrAogYW4g2wmvPjpXjlrr8VvcT_A/s1600/GIMP+Blending+3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMQAbSYvuvSmCI6mMenC3SafNTOkDfCTpnGEokOd5q7xG50s3efEhWOh1OCXh6PaJMAV-0OfHFmoER0Y6TYXixdciE77lARtxHXrhCuGERcD747mzCrAogYW4g2wmvPjpXjlrr8VvcT_A/s320/GIMP+Blending+3.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Combining the Images</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
6. Right click on the image in the first drawing board to copy and paste it to the new board. Don't cut it. In case something goes wrong, you'll need the original to start over. You may get a drop down list from the one shown below. In that case select - Edit - copy; or if you can use the short cut keys for copy/paste.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOYCL93ZSK6yQMeSUYiDwnePx0YERPWECopzWkaTYd4BKg1XGP9L_wzaTf4-7NyrSlb2qG_ykkPTsr3liZGWpIahpVAI-qDjpqhaVR1fEnGStBnNBW5KscjHxWqOA37UQU-Q6YqRSnQGQ/s1600/GIMP+Blending+4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="262" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOYCL93ZSK6yQMeSUYiDwnePx0YERPWECopzWkaTYd4BKg1XGP9L_wzaTf4-7NyrSlb2qG_ykkPTsr3liZGWpIahpVAI-qDjpqhaVR1fEnGStBnNBW5KscjHxWqOA37UQU-Q6YqRSnQGQ/s320/GIMP+Blending+4.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
7. Do the same with the second image. When both are pasted on the fresh canvas, your screen should look like the screen shot below. One image overlaps the other.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
12. Now that you have the basic combined image, you can start playing around with it. But first crop it to your specifications in Paint or MS picture editor. <b>You can't open a file saved in GIMP from another application</b>. So, copy the image and manually paste it in Paint. The screen shot below will show you how.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
13. Paste the image in Paint, crop it and save it. Here's what mine looks like after the cropping. But can't you do this in GIMP itself? You can. But I did not get the result I want. There are 3 crop options in the Image tab of the GIMP menu bar. Try each of these and see what happens.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
As a writer, I've often felt the need to have two documents side by side. I generally copy/paste all my research onto a Word document. I compare this with my final draft just to ensure I won't be accused of plagiarism.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Opening two adjacent documents for comparison is very easy to do in Word. Just install the view side by side icon to your Quick Access bar. Here are the steps.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Comparing Two Word Files</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1. File - options - Quick Access Toolbar. (You can also do this by clicking on the dropdown arrow in your quick access tool bar).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2. From the drop down list, choose 'All Commands'. Scroll down the list until you locate 'view side by side'.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
3. When you click on it, the 'Add' button is activated. When you hit 'Add' the 'view side by side' icon gets transferred to the 'Customize Quick Access Toolbar' column.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
4. Now click 'ok'. You'll now find the icon in the Quick Access Toolbar of your Word Document.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can just click on this icon whenever you want to compare two active (activate a document by clicking at any point inside it) documents.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Comparing Two Excel Files</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In Excel, the steps are slightly different.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A. <b>For viewing different sheets from the same workbook side by side</b></div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li style="text-align: justify;">Open the View Tab </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">From the Windows Group, first select 'New Window' and then click on 'Arrange All' and choose the 'vertical' radio button.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">These activities activate the view side by side icon. Click on it. You can now choose the sheets you want to compare by clicking on the names of the sheets. Multiple sheets can be viewed simultaneously this way.</li>
</ol>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
B.<b> For comparing sheets from different work books </b></div>
</div>
<div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li style="text-align: justify;">Open the workbooks from the 'File Menu'.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">From the Windows Group of the View tab choose 'view side by side'. That's it.</li>
</ol>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
C. <b>For easy comparison of any two windows</b></div>
</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I am writing for clients, I put all my notes on a Google doc and share it with them. The clients use this for input and instructions. I cross out the notes in the Google doc as I cover them in my Word Document. So, I need the Google doc and the Word file side by side.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There have been occasions when I've had to copy the contents of a small segment in an Excel file to a table in Word. In an effort to have the relevant portions of both documents easily readable, I used to do a lot of resizing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Is it possible to have an Excel file and a Word document or for that matter any two windows from different applications side by side for easy comparison, without having to constantly resize? Yes. It's easy and unbelievably quick.</div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li style="text-align: justify;">Open the first application and click inside it to activate it. Now hold down the Windows Logo key and simultaneously press the left arrow button on your keyboard. Your document obligingly moves over to occupy the left half of your screen. </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Now open the next application and activate it. Hold down the Windows Logo key and simultaneously press the right arrow to delegate the file to the right side of your screen. </li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Makes life easier doesn't it?</div>
</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I discovered OneNote 6 years ago and instantly fell in love. Every time I use the application, I fall deeper in love.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am still discovering new features that make my work easier. The latest of my discoveries is its use as a calculator. All you have to do is to type in the numbers and mathematical operators in sequence followed by "=" and then hit enter to get your answer. But why would you use this, when you can use your regular calculator the same way, to get the same result? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Look at the box below. All the numbers and operators keyed in are right there to be edited if necessary. You can't do that with a calculator. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1-iQRlOSwemEtlDdmpRoYhE5sTKd-RiXjJVjQck79ZrbRytpnRbiR0Muh5L03BIjdrhyDO5NZr2LU-KCFkRx0n7SW3n5jRLnmsGPtAPXbuFcKGt1jrckJSaAbKKkVDEo4p3FynTVvrkYZ/s1600/Cal.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1-iQRlOSwemEtlDdmpRoYhE5sTKd-RiXjJVjQck79ZrbRytpnRbiR0Muh5L03BIjdrhyDO5NZr2LU-KCFkRx0n7SW3n5jRLnmsGPtAPXbuFcKGt1jrckJSaAbKKkVDEo4p3FynTVvrkYZ/s1600/Cal.png" /></a>1. If you've made a mistake, you can simply delete the wrong entry and type in the correct one. The answer however does not change automatically as in Excel. You have to delete the old one, place your cursor after the "=" and press "Enter".</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2. If you have to repeat the calculation with an altered entry or two, just make the appropriate changes to the numbers or operators, delete the old answer and hit "enter. A real time saver.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
3. You can always pull up the page for future reference.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yeah. I definitely prefer this to my calculator. Better than Excel for calculations that use multiple operators with no particular structure or format.</div>
</div>

I am one of several frustrated users of the Digital Library of India. If you have used the website you will truly comprehend the meaning of frustration. <br />
<br />
You can download the books from the website only one .tiff image file at a time. (And this is supposed to be a website maintained by the premier institutions of our country. Looks like people no longer take pride in a job well done.)<br />
<br />
So, you have the patience to download it. But do you have the patience to actually read these image files one .tiff file at a time?<br />
<br />
There are other options like the DLI downloader that help you download the books in PDF format. But I've found that whatever OCR is being used, messes up the text. <br />
<br />
I've finally discovered a way to convert these .tiff image files to PDF. Here's how...<br />
<br />
It's free for now. So make hay while the sun shines. Go to this <a href="http://www.weenysoft.com/">website</a> and download Weeny Free Image to PDF Converter, and install it.<br />
<br />
<b>Step 1: </b> Open the application and click on Add Images.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTMoMDBX4a97e0fWr-F0rGCe8T7nBbEwOMbUX3MMdn2PjHSDrSfQZ4U-LZ97yREpML3URBzbs2VFbn6DjhUJFs2ZHoZmc5yQ6bWChFp28kzf6QtwkuM66u30wgNgzAj3QsqMqalZzbkg1-/s1600/Untitled.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTMoMDBX4a97e0fWr-F0rGCe8T7nBbEwOMbUX3MMdn2PjHSDrSfQZ4U-LZ97yREpML3URBzbs2VFbn6DjhUJFs2ZHoZmc5yQ6bWChFp28kzf6QtwkuM66u30wgNgzAj3QsqMqalZzbkg1-/s1600/Untitled.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This opens the dialog box shown below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAILLaCSAhy6xkO6Q8yS26vrYRNrskS1LiaeIZ4XzthaFEWKkkcXzlQCc8Ve_c989nYrypRfZbAAzik7ffP-Mg1Z8vkv-1-WsipiGMBhHUyNmHOForehRrvSAni8hN1ygkOwj4I85gyYjz/s1600/Untitled+picture.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="333" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAILLaCSAhy6xkO6Q8yS26vrYRNrskS1LiaeIZ4XzthaFEWKkkcXzlQCc8Ve_c989nYrypRfZbAAzik7ffP-Mg1Z8vkv-1-WsipiGMBhHUyNmHOForehRrvSAni8hN1ygkOwj4I85gyYjz/s400/Untitled+picture.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Step 2:</b> Now locate and select the folder containing your images.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b>Step 3: </b>Click on the first file to select it. Then, hold the shift key down and select the last file and then click "Open". Holding down the shift key and simultaneously clicking on the last file selects all the files in between as well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
When step 3 is sucessfully executed, you'll see something like the image below on your screen.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So, sit back and wait. It only takes about a minute to convert as many as 200 image files. Once the application has converted your image files to pdf, the folder containing your new pdf file will open on your screen. Open the file, check it out, rename the file and relocate it as you see fit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
If you want to convert another bunch of images to pdf, close the application and then reopen it again; especially if you have've just converted a multi-page image folder; or you will have to delete the image files just converted to pdf one file and a time. Ugh!</div>

Here's the problem.<br />
<br />
My maid Jaya has borrowed Rs. 2000/- from me to pay her daughter's school fees. She tells me to deduct Rs.200 from her salary every month. I want a spreadsheet that shows, the total amount she has borrowed, and the balance she has to repay as I deduct Rs. 200 every month. <br />
<br />
This is the easiest way I can go about doing it.<br />
<br />
<b>Step 1:</b> I've entered the month, the amount borrowed, and the amount she said I could deduct from her salary in the columns A, B, and C.<br />
<br />
<b>Step 2:</b> For D1, I've assigned the value '=B1-C1'; Rs.1800<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisd6OTQRHK6qI2pbZm_Ql0cHspuH014Khc_JCQTvEjuXmNPZq9Wu6tlL7zhqNud8vkmv2He5-W1f0RJb9-R90CpvGTilR5Zw1SSPMMvwtebgeL4GXSaI9-WMroEuFx-3U2LMgG1GMUQgGe/s1600/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisd6OTQRHK6qI2pbZm_Ql0cHspuH014Khc_JCQTvEjuXmNPZq9Wu6tlL7zhqNud8vkmv2He5-W1f0RJb9-R90CpvGTilR5Zw1SSPMMvwtebgeL4GXSaI9-WMroEuFx-3U2LMgG1GMUQgGe/s1600/1.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Step 3:</b> Obviously, the value for B2 is ' =D1' as by Feb the money she has to pay me back is Rs.1800 which is same as the value in the cell D1.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Step 4:</b> Clearly, she'll be repaying me over a period of 10 months. When I place the mouse pointer on the spot shown in the picture above, the pointer changes to plus. I've dragged the handle up to row 10 to fill in the months. You can see the result in the pic below. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

If you are reading this, you are probably frustrated from trying to download books from <a href="http://www.dli.ernet.in/">DLI</a>. DLI is an ambitious project. But, over the past couple of years, I've been wondering why anyone would go to the trouble of uploading so many valuable books and not ensure easy access. The pages are presented as .TIFF images to be downloaded one page at a time. Imagine doing 600+ pages. All the same, the fact remains that the website does contain books you will not find anywhere else. So, how do you go about accessing them?<br />
<br />
<b>Tutorial on Using DLI Downloader</b><br />
Go through the instructions in this <a href="http://sanskritdocuments.org/scannedbooks/dlidownloader/">link</a>. Yeah, you really need to go through them, before you can proceed further.<br />
Wait, don't move on. Remember, DLI has some really wonderful and rare books you can download for free. It's not a complete waste of time reading the instructions in this link. Think of all those times you had to go to the library, hustling for seats in two crowded buses or crawling through the traffic in your car (these days using sun controls in your car is not allowed). All you need to do here is, sit in front of your computer, and read instructions.<br />
<br />
Okay, so now you've downloaded and installed the DLI dowloader. How do you go about actually downloading books from DLI. Let me say this before I proceed. The DLI downloader software is the best there is out there for this purpose. Here's how you use it.<br />
<br />
<b>Step 1</b>: Go to the DLI page.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5NbI_jUu1hz8W3M60X5UGPM211CtDX_rExV2ojQmlHs8f97rcfDG08m7yrKNCav1Z1yCg1QLj-ykfxx3x55_zXr0AaCkslSPqIBe8OzDVpNmLPcSl2IXEXQpqel4U0n31bTnj15_JIL6v/s1600/Step+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5NbI_jUu1hz8W3M60X5UGPM211CtDX_rExV2ojQmlHs8f97rcfDG08m7yrKNCav1Z1yCg1QLj-ykfxx3x55_zXr0AaCkslSPqIBe8OzDVpNmLPcSl2IXEXQpqel4U0n31bTnj15_JIL6v/s640/Step+1.png" width="344" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Step 2: Choosing a Book:</b> Let's say the title of the book you are looking for is "The Synthesis of Yoga". Type it in the title slot and click "Search". Let's do that and see what happens. <span style="color: #c27ba0;">Please note that your search may not be recognized if there are spelling mistakes</span>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is what you'll see. Click on one books from the list.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLch79EQVEcdPIS-A8TCIZCA0X51B1nxopRcM2iTS-u1F0T7yRguZ9NLoo-Zvd5MqvJ5jV5mCdla-Cj0gsNwKEJ1J4X0eyFnmZbLC6EkfeBX-oO39xghhpSNLdi8dx4xpCCHpHpXztOPQN/s1600/Step+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLch79EQVEcdPIS-A8TCIZCA0X51B1nxopRcM2iTS-u1F0T7yRguZ9NLoo-Zvd5MqvJ5jV5mCdla-Cj0gsNwKEJ1J4X0eyFnmZbLC6EkfeBX-oO39xghhpSNLdi8dx4xpCCHpHpXztOPQN/s640/Step+2.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
If you don't know the title, but you know the author's name, fill in the author box and hit "Search". If you want to browse, click the down arrow beside the subject box or the one beside the language box, you'll get a drop down menu with a list of choices (shown in the pic below) select the subject and language to and hit "Search".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZVdLkrc9a2lIZChp9rvOLpRjq5g6BItB_ZlIp6sV4KC9dl1EPX429V4_MpS-uOAkh1CsbqgVTs8GHTuiVAK6nZwP-4VBtbHHB1dnELb79C7G1eAedgwkHLGVWgQr1qbMwwW8eneD0AhSt/s1600/Step+3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZVdLkrc9a2lIZChp9rvOLpRjq5g6BItB_ZlIp6sV4KC9dl1EPX429V4_MpS-uOAkh1CsbqgVTs8GHTuiVAK6nZwP-4VBtbHHB1dnELb79C7G1eAedgwkHLGVWgQr1qbMwwW8eneD0AhSt/s640/Step+3.png" width="288" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
After you have selected the subject and the language and hit "Search", you'll see something like this on your screen.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #a64d79;">Note: When you search for a book by title or author, set the subject to "any subject" and make sure that the language search is set correctly. Also set the scanning center to "any center".</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Browse through the list and click on the book you want to download.<span style="color: #a64d79;"> </span><span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #a64d79;">But before you do that take note of the number of pages in the book.</span> </span>As we proceed, you'll see why you need that information later.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
When you select the book, you will be taken to the page you see below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #741b47; text-align: justify;">Note: For some reason it is not possible to copy and paste the barcode; you'll have to enter it manually. </span><span style="text-align: justify;">The easiest way to do this is to open the downloader on top of the DLI page and position it such that the code is visible and copy it one number at a time. Now hit "download". You'll see the picture below on your screen.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It downloading, but in all probability, within the next few minutes, you'll see the screen below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Oops!!! So, what went wrong? It probably got timed out. But this sometimes happens when I have a slow connection, or when is book has over 300 pages or perhaps there's a problem with the DLI server. But what I do know for sure is, it does not work when you try again later either. The next day maybe. I don't know. Here's something I've tried that works almost always.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
If you check out the picture above once more, you'll notice that the barcode too has gone. So, yes, you'll have to enter it manually once again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #741b47;">Remember, I told you to take note of the number of pages in the book? We need that information now.</span> Let's break the download down to a few pages at a time, based on the number of pages that were downloaded before the connection was lost. Okay, so let's try only 50 pages for now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZAA3zvkL-2C85SQe32I9H6ZYOHZ3RQD0oJa_WRJjaxIU-dnygQVxrssrXMlsIWJSL0J58bxarxXeTMYqRh3hxwi7Gu0EaewWulqjgqI7ui2j2b0n62D485SXhYUo7fm-4E9efKsj0mbrM/s1600/step+8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZAA3zvkL-2C85SQe32I9H6ZYOHZ3RQD0oJa_WRJjaxIU-dnygQVxrssrXMlsIWJSL0J58bxarxXeTMYqRh3hxwi7Gu0EaewWulqjgqI7ui2j2b0n62D485SXhYUo7fm-4E9efKsj0mbrM/s640/step+8.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This usually works. When the download is complete, you'll see the 'status' message as in the screenshot below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkcqcGiiNyOtUpJ2GR5rAIFc-eaAaraxWnCxTkGYtjlEtAmoU_VpLqoBLALqbw3VDe7HGfcG-xr3ZbzPnJ8-nNv-18Vqj4r-qCjw3u9tvIBAcpZFt4Hq76WpvtP4-9ubUiVot7m0G0WasK/s1600/Step+9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="269" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkcqcGiiNyOtUpJ2GR5rAIFc-eaAaraxWnCxTkGYtjlEtAmoU_VpLqoBLALqbw3VDe7HGfcG-xr3ZbzPnJ8-nNv-18Vqj4r-qCjw3u9tvIBAcpZFt4Hq76WpvtP4-9ubUiVot7m0G0WasK/s320/Step+9.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
and finally, this the message below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5s7tW-gkZzCq2EGVYFxLR9x9PtnZIRJpB-UaN3uqrtvxLIGACifYKsAO_9Ya7wUBqc-U5kBDKP8OFSDLpwIvcD3dydlJYQTcbb8CO6A6jZJnPZoZWYFWCBppH_Nw_FccFqbDS3vqsy1Gv/s1600/step+10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="271" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5s7tW-gkZzCq2EGVYFxLR9x9PtnZIRJpB-UaN3uqrtvxLIGACifYKsAO_9Ya7wUBqc-U5kBDKP8OFSDLpwIvcD3dydlJYQTcbb8CO6A6jZJnPZoZWYFWCBppH_Nw_FccFqbDS3vqsy1Gv/s320/step+10.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So, the book has been created successfully. But where is it? Go to 'My Computer' and type 'DLID books' in the search box. Note down the location for future reference, and then cut and paste the book in the desired folder.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Hope you found this tutorial helpful. Let me know if there are any errors here or if you come across any problems other than the ones I've mentioned here.</div>

I recently found Findr in hiding. In hiding? Yeah, because I can't seem to find any other way to describe it.<br />

I have over 25 years worth of xeroxed notes, designs, pattern instructions, grammar lessons etc. I want to convert them all into digital copies. <br />
<br />
I've found ABBY FineReader to be a useful tool to help me with this. Most of the xeroxed notes are of very poor quality. Yet I've been able to successfully scan and edit them into word files.<br />
<br />
Here are the steps. (Click directly on the pictures to enlarge them.)<br />
<br />
First connect your scanner to your computer and place the book or document to be scanned face down on the scanner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<b>Step 1:</b> Now open ABBY FineReader and select New Task.<br />

If you are asking this, then you already are a blogger. But why should you keep your own page views from getting tracked?<br />
<br />
When you install a Pageview tracker on your blog, it's because you want to know the number of visitors who land on your page. But the default counter keeps track of the blogger's own pageviews. This means, every time you edit a post and view your blog, the tracker adds to the number of pageviews. Since you don't know how many times you've viewed your pages, you won't know how many visitors have stopped by. The only way of knowing this, is getting blogger to stop tracking your own pageviews.<br />
<br />
Let's go ahead and do it.<br />
<br />
First, get to your blogger <b>Design </b>page and follow the steps below.<br />
<br />
<b>Step 1:</b> Click on stats<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b style="background-color: orange;">Update on 19th Oct 2013: </b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
1. If you are using multiple browsers, it's not enough to just select the "Don't track my pageviews". Read the text in the last screen clipping. A blocking cookie added to your browser stops the actual tracking. So, you need to set the preference every time you use a different browser. Just set the preference from each of the browsers you use in one go.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
2. I use <a href="http://statcounter.com/">statcounter</a> for detailed analysis of traffic to your webpage. Just install the stat counter. Log in to your Stat Counter account and click on blocking cookie. </div>

In my previous <a href="http://techstunted.blogspot.in/2013/01/removing-findr-toolbar.html"> post</a> , I'd discussed how to disable Findr. But, getting rid of the Findr toolbar is obviously not as easy as I'd first thought. It seems to ride piggy back on third party installations. This time, there was no down arrow with a drop down menu. Now I had to figure out other means to disable Findr.<br />
<br />
So, here's another way to disable Findr toolbar - hopefully permanently.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<b>Step 1:</b> Open your browser and click on the menu at the top right hand corner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJhjwvuCjDPq2zkxVHXaJHqvIee7qLR5ZcxzTv3IRU6CUUoNwB7o6Nzn0sZgRCkKdakmtdwmewv0GOJ88jOse_n_jjEtMaVFsFT_N2wlnvVD4JTlpkS63-aFIQ0aqjcjTmxg3jkcSqMJMK/s1600/menu.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJhjwvuCjDPq2zkxVHXaJHqvIee7qLR5ZcxzTv3IRU6CUUoNwB7o6Nzn0sZgRCkKdakmtdwmewv0GOJ88jOse_n_jjEtMaVFsFT_N2wlnvVD4JTlpkS63-aFIQ0aqjcjTmxg3jkcSqMJMK/s1600/menu.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
When you click on that, this is the drop down menu that'll appear on your screen.</div>
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMlpKbLz7EQbp7GAQ13L4NezPAadF9Qr2mYprfcoHpGV5QawanyoEBWMLjDchvK4sX5KC_nQGJKoaEU-SBDAXrxztTBQY2y-9nxq-7l1WK3ku0aOOlES4bhOa7ghtwKRPQWlWd3p68hSlv/s1600/Tools.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMlpKbLz7EQbp7GAQ13L4NezPAadF9Qr2mYprfcoHpGV5QawanyoEBWMLjDchvK4sX5KC_nQGJKoaEU-SBDAXrxztTBQY2y-9nxq-7l1WK3ku0aOOlES4bhOa7ghtwKRPQWlWd3p68hSlv/s640/Tools.png" width="444" /></a><br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Step 2</b>: Click on <b>Tools</b>, and from the new list, select <b>Extensions. </b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<b><br /></b>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGl4TY5TxG7mCO_mLURF50S3inSbto0g53l8r1Rs8duK9UsyuaCkhfJ7KK2sPqbRJsSDAwiwT30ZAS_JkE-FvBqSkfaHJp3t9JzSuUJ3bOwsFJumVXX9L1q1hXK4ITQ4vq_7pOfPf3dCl9/s1600/Extensions.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="491" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGl4TY5TxG7mCO_mLURF50S3inSbto0g53l8r1Rs8duK9UsyuaCkhfJ7KK2sPqbRJsSDAwiwT30ZAS_JkE-FvBqSkfaHJp3t9JzSuUJ3bOwsFJumVXX9L1q1hXK4ITQ4vq_7pOfPf3dCl9/s640/Extensions.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><b>Step 3:</b> The page below is your gateway to</span><span style="text-align: left;"> removing Findr toolbar. Simply uncheck </span><b style="text-align: left;">enable, </b><span style="text-align: left;">and you are all done.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCe9Ac_5_Xp8CXb0mz0N_R9SZW-extN8BHy4a29GQ65bzOJpv04Z356jbj-ReLI6D3kO9KVLTf_FGkEiwtakZHgNfPaAFpe7yFUUDa3Wz7xwC0WifPer40NouYv_OucJvTJ6Co3IDcfKhR/s1600/Disable.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="465" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCe9Ac_5_Xp8CXb0mz0N_R9SZW-extN8BHy4a29GQ65bzOJpv04Z356jbj-ReLI6D3kO9KVLTf_FGkEiwtakZHgNfPaAFpe7yFUUDa3Wz7xwC0WifPer40NouYv_OucJvTJ6Co3IDcfKhR/s640/Disable.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b style="text-align: left;">Step 4:</b><span style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #cc0000;"> Dump it into the recycle bin for good measure.</span> While you are at it, if you see anything else you don't like, give it the same treatment. Now that you've uninstalled Findr, this screen is what you'll see. (I have uninstalled all other third party installations as well.)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><b>Note:</b> Did you notice that the extensions page is the same as the one in the previous <a href="http://techstunted.blogspot.in/2013/01/removing-findr-toolbar.html">post</a>? We've just accessed them through different means.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHXEsTGfQJw9Dmn8hSwCtf5XYOAjeTp18BYZVQOaTa5dlbDoUrEgASbreAbSB0MGiAWxLbnaNMe1VcrYFpHGCH0RHX1cSBYhjgLPQ0yaVFK5Kt6ZIfM2AJ-iIkei49OH8GymY2dwrN6gcH/s1600/done.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="204" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHXEsTGfQJw9Dmn8hSwCtf5XYOAjeTp18BYZVQOaTa5dlbDoUrEgASbreAbSB0MGiAWxLbnaNMe1VcrYFpHGCH0RHX1cSBYhjgLPQ0yaVFK5Kt6ZIfM2AJ-iIkei49OH8GymY2dwrN6gcH/s640/done.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, the next time you're saddled with third party installations you'd rather do without, you know what to do. Removing Findr and other such toolbars gives you power over whoever is dumping things on you. Knowledge, obviously is empowerment.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: orange; text-align: justify;">Update: These instructions are specific to Chrome</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: justify;">If you are fond of downloading freeware, you may end up with toolbars you don't want. One such toolbar I found myself saddled with, is the Finder toolbar. I could not uninstall Findr because I could not find it in my Control Panel. </span><span style="text-align: justify;">Why not just let it be? Because it occupies the space right at the top of a webpage. For instance, it overlaps on the "view blog" button at the top of my blogger 'new post' page, hindering my access to it.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpDSX-YNgS3oYIryT_5lazw_ilxz4vv5CvrMOTVV4AOPG64owcqIVKFXeFPTNzigaiUSCEA_txqfzSO3gzPzFwo1eS4O78m2hStZ-rNvQDxQVM8Lbmk6T639MEhgJ7aEFigvw74tngDvCw/s1600/LUTH+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="201" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpDSX-YNgS3oYIryT_5lazw_ilxz4vv5CvrMOTVV4AOPG64owcqIVKFXeFPTNzigaiUSCEA_txqfzSO3gzPzFwo1eS4O78m2hStZ-rNvQDxQVM8Lbmk6T639MEhgJ7aEFigvw74tngDvCw/s400/LUTH+1.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
How did I end up with this in the first place? I suppose I blindly clicked on 'Next' while installing a freeware. Findr stuck and would not go away, no matter what I tried. Googling it did not help either. I finally discovered how to disable Findr. Here's what I did. You can try it too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Disable all the enabled options or leave what you want. Your screen will now look like the picture below.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFQnx4H9A44FfNQqKnJuNvrLYLmg8HkAEn9zlB52eqjLZf4rbfzuZizN8D_GK0_SVIS0zydk5giu6zUb6Sj_bmxVLTDdB6JZgD-Cd4I9uaG-z0zDGPIbnn1zeMqNy1-1ZZXzcfA7dXhZUx/s1600/LINK+BUILDING.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="178" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFQnx4H9A44FfNQqKnJuNvrLYLmg8HkAEn9zlB52eqjLZf4rbfzuZizN8D_GK0_SVIS0zydk5giu6zUb6Sj_bmxVLTDdB6JZgD-Cd4I9uaG-z0zDGPIbnn1zeMqNy1-1ZZXzcfA7dXhZUx/s320/LINK+BUILDING.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Why is link building
important? How does it affect traffic to your website?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Link building is not
something that can be easily dismissed. Having good organic links will have a
positive impact on your PageRank, driving traffic your way. If the PageRank of
the websites that have your links are well liked by the Search Engine spiders,
chances are yours will be too.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>But What's PageRank?</b><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b><br />
</b>PageRank named for Larry
Page, one of the guys who developed the algorithm, is the probability theory
that analysis the probability of a user, landing on a particular page, when
someone searches for specific information. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br />
In a way, PageRank is a Search Engine's vote of confidence, that a website has
the best information, relevant to the search words keyed in by the
user.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br />
<b>How Do Search Engines Assign PageRanks?<o:p></o:p></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br />
Consider a webpage A with information about Columbus. There are several other
webpages as well with information on Columbus. But most of them have links
leading back to webpage A, citing it as the source of information or telling
you that webpage A has informative posts on similar topics. Obviously webpage A
is well liked by people researching Columbus. Therefore, the Search Engines too
like webpage A and assign it a good PageRank. Webpage A, now that it's loved by
both the browsers and the Search Engines get s assigned either Page 1 or Page 2
in the Search Engine Results Page (SERP).<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<ul type="disc">
<li class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"> PageRank of the blog.<o:p></o:p></span></li>
</ul>
<ul type="disc">
<li class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"> Whether the articles in
the blog are relevant.<o:p></o:p></span></li>
</ul>
<ul type="disc">
<li class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"> If the blogger is
authoritative enough in her chosen field in order to have several other
websites post a link to hers.<o:p></o:p></span></li>
</ul>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>Steps to Link Building</b><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Say you are a blogger.

Your computer is not reading from your old disc.! You try it on someone else's computer- no good!<br />
<br />
Here are a few things you can try.<br />
<br />
Get yourself an external disk drive - ranga suggested this. It is really worth it. Now to retrieve your data-<br />
<br />
1. Wash the CD with a mild liquid soap like DETTOL HANDWASH, DRY THE CD COMPLETELY and try reading it again - this actually works sometimes. I've tried it.<br />
2. If that does not work, here are some software worth trying.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.roadkil.net/unstopcp.html">UNSTOPPABLE COPIER</a> - very time consuming but worth it. You do want your data don't you?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.isobuster.com/">ISO BUSTER</a> - have not tried this.<br />
<br />
They skip the affected areas.<br />
You can at least retrieve parts of your file.<br />

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Have you ever uploaded a picture to blogger only to find it rotated 90 degrees? By now you would have realised that using conventional picture viewers to rotate (straighten) and save the picture doesn't work.<br />
<br />
You may wonder why this happens. The purpose of this post is not to explore the why, but to learn how to straighten your picture.<br />
<br />
So, what do you do?<br />
<br />
One way to fix the problem is to use Picasa web album. But what if like me, you don't use Picasa?<br />
<br />
Here's what I do. Open the picture using <a href="http://www.gimp.org/downloads/">GIMP.</a><br />
<br />
If you don't already have GIMP, click on GIMP in the previous line. It will take you to the GIMP homepage. First download and install the free GIMP photo editing software.<br />
<br />
Now follow these steps.<br />
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>Right click on the picture and choose "Edit with GIMP" from the drop down list.</li>
<li>When GIMP opens the picture, you will get a message "<b>According to EXIF data, this image is rotated. </b>Would you like GIMP to rotate it in the standard orientation?" (The cause of our problem.)</li>
<li>Choose "Keep Orientation".</li>
<li>Now go to the GIMP file menu and choose "save" to save your file.</li>
<li>When you upload the picture again, you'll see that your problem has been fixed.</li>
</ol>
<div>
<b>Note:</b></div>
<div>
EXIF means Exchangeable Image file. If you want more information on EXIF data, hop over to <a href="http://digital-photography-school.com/using-exif-data">Digital Photography School</a> and read the post there.<br />
<br /></div>
</div>
If you use Picasa, this <a href="http://blogging.nitecruzr.net/2012/02/incorrect-orientation-of-photos.html">link</a>
might help you.</div>
